This building is among the largest mansions of Kampos and is believed to have been designed with the intention of hosting even a king. Its first owner, Francesco Marcopoli, Bishop of the Roman Catholic Church of Chios, maintained close ties with the King of Italy, who had promised to include Chios in his planned journey to the Levant.
In anticipation of a possible royal visit, Bishop Marcopoli undertook modifications to the mansion while it was still under construction, ensuring it would meet the standards required for such distinguished hospitality. Upon completion, it became a magnificent and lavish residence, worthy of receiving a king.
