The “Treasures of Kampos” travel to Evia!

Evangelos N. Kotatis

I was delighted to receive a warm letter of thanks from the 2nd Primary School of Istiaia, to which I donated my book, The Treasures of Kampos, dedicated to Kampos, Chios – a unique traditional settlement rich in history, architecture, and memory.

The most moving moment was a photograph of my fellow islander, Faii Vavouri, the school principal, inside the school library holding the book – ready to be shared with the students.

The school is not only a place of learning but also a beacon of culture. The 2nd Primary School of Istiaia demonstrates every day that education can connect students with their roots, local history, and the value of tradition.

With great emotion, the principal invited me to visit the school and speak to the children about the ideals represented in the book. It is both an honor and a joy to share in person the message that:

Kampos of Chios, with its mansions, orchards, and stone-built houses, becomes an inspiration to speak about all places that “speak” – if only we pause to listen. Stones have a soul. Old houses have stories to tell.

And this is the purpose of the book: to keep these stories alive for future generations.

Along with the letter, the principal – of Chian origin – also sent photographs from the school. In one of them, a classroom filled with color and imagination is visible, with walls decorated with painted Chian tulips and trees inspired by Kampos. The children have created their own “Kampos” within their school.

I sincerely thank the principal, the teaching staff, the Parents and Guardians Association, and the students for their honor, acceptance, and warmth.

The “Treasures of Kampos” continue their journey – from Kampos, Chios, to the hearts of students across Greece!
