Feature on Kampos, Chios. Part II – A Tour with Evangelos Kotatis. Gonies tis Chiou

Evangelos N. Kotatis

An in-depth presentation of the book “The Treasures of Kampos,” focusing on the unique architecture and history of the Kampos region in Chios. This television feature was filmed on site at one of the former estates of the prominent Rallis family (Chaviaras branch), for the show “Gonies tis Chiou” (Gonies tis Chiou), hosted by Nikos Zappas, and was aired on Patrida TV and the Hellenic Parliament TV.

The book represents an original study that examines the historic estates and architecture of Kampos through the perspective and personal testimonies of its residents.

The purpose of this approach is twofold: on one hand, it provides a platform for the owners to share their insights directly, making them the finest ambassadors of the local cultural heritage and illuminating the region’s contribution to the history, culture, economy, and tourism of Chios. On the other hand, the book undertakes the first-ever digital documentation of the surviving architectural ensembles, preserving and showcasing these irreplaceable monuments as an enduring legacy (“ktema es aei”) for the island.

Additionally, specialized scholars and researchers of Chian culture shed light on further dimensions of Kampos. This comprehensive bilingual edition (Greek – English) is written in an accessible, unpretentious narrative that intentionally avoids dry technical jargon, making it an engaging read for the wider public.
