Although he was born and raised in England, he never forgot his roots or the homeland of his ancestors. A passionate admirer of history and the heritage of Kampos, he felt it was his duty to visit Chios with his family and experience firsthand the place from which their forebears originated.
It was a great honor and pleasure for me to meet him personally and exchange knowledge and information about the history of Kampos and its noble families.
The Skaramagas family is among the 37 aristocratic families recorded in the Libro d’Oro de la Noblesse de Chio (the Golden Book of the Chian Nobility), the historic register of Chios’s noble families. It is one of the oldest Byzantine families to have settled on the island, arriving in Chios at the end of the 16th century and maintaining a distinguished position among the aristocracy of Kampos for generations.
I was especially pleased that he and his family acquired copies of my book, The Treasures of Kampos, in which I had the honor of writing a personal dedication as a keepsake of their visit to the homeland of their ancestors.
