Hagia Sophia: The Ultimate Architectural Awe

Evangelos N. Kotatis

During my recent research visit to Constantinople, stopping at the iconic monument of Hagia Sophia was a moment of profound emotion and spiritual uplift.

As an architect, standing beneath this monumental dome is not merely a tourist experience, but a profound lesson in history, structural engineering, and aesthetic perfection. Hagia Sophia stands as the eternal beacon of Byzantine architecture—a space where light and structure are transmuted into divine art. Documenting this masterpiece through my lens is a valuable addition to my travel records, as its architectural roots structurally and culturally connect the heritage of the Hellenic world across the centuries.
